BRIDGEWATER, NJ - Gladstone student Aidan Vineis matched his chess skills against a county freeholder this week. Aidan was among ten young students from throughout Somerset County matched wits and strategy with Somerset County Freeholder Brian Levine in a chess tournament Thursday at the Bridgewater branch, Somerset County Library System of New Jersey.
Levine challenged faced off against the students all at once. They were up to the challenge, with each match lasting upwards of three hours; one student was able to capture both knight and queen pieces from Levine.
However, Levine, wearing his lucky chess tee-shirt, was able to defeat each challenger, but not without some angst.
More than once, Levine was seen running his fingers through his hair, having been stumped or out-maneuvered by one of his opponents.
Levine donated 6 professional chess sets to the Library.
