HILLSBOROUGH, NJ – A young township couple are the parents of the first baby born in Somerset County in 2018.

Chloe Maria Jacobs was born at Robert Wood Johnson Hospital/Somerset in Somerville at 7:29 a.m. New Year’s Day to parents Lana and Daniel Jacobs.

The infant weighs 6 pounds, 8 ounces and is 20 inches long. She is the couple’s first child.

The baby was delivered by obstetrician/gynecologist Marlan Schwartz, MD.

“It’s been surreal, we’ve probably been up for 40 hours straight at this point, beginning with her contractions,” Jacobs said seven hours after their baby was born.

“We’re watching her rest peacefully,” he added. “She’s already a thumb sucker.

“We both want to take a nap, but we can’t take our eyes off her,” he added. “We’re just taking it all in, we’re super excited.”

The couple knew ahead of time that their baby would be a girl, but hadn’t yet decided on her name when she was born.

“We had a little bit of trouble deciding what we wanted to go with,” he explained.

The couple has lived in Hillsborough for five years; the baby’s mother grew up in Hillsborough from the time she was 10; her husband grew up in New York and attended Rider University in Lawrenceville. He works in New York for Bank of America. His wife graduated Kean University in Union and works for the state of New Jersey.

The couple will be home Wednesday; the infant’s room, painted a shade of purple, is all set up for her.

They’ll have plenty of visitors; Jacobs’ father, six brothers and sisters, and five nieces and nephews. His wife has two siblings, and Chloe is the first grandchild for her parents.

The young couple has already worked out their overnight routine for when Chloe wakes up and needs to be fed.

“I’m a borderline insomniac,” Jacobs explained. “If Lana’s sleeping, it’s my problem.”
