Hillsborough Man Charged with Manufacture of Child Pornography

SOMERVILLE, N.J. – A 38-year-old Hillsborough man faces multiple charges including the manufacture of child pornography after police traced his activities on the Internet., according to Somerset County Prosecutor Michael H. Robertson.

The investigation revealed that the suspect was using multiple social media accounts to engage in sexually explicit conversations and to secure sexually explicit images/videos of children under the age of 18, according to Robertson.

Robertson and Hillsborough Township Chief of Police Darren Powell announced the arrest of Rolando Miranda, a resident of Farm Road, on Tuesday, one day after police and detectives from the Somerset County Prosecutor's Office and FBI agents executed a search warrant at his home.

Robertson provided the following details:

Local authorities were notified by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children that the suspect was engaging in sexually explicit online conversations with a minor.  Based on this information an investigation was initiated by detectives assigned to the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Special Investigations/Computer Crimes Unit.

The search warrant was executed at 6 a.m. Monday; as a result of the search, multiple digital devices were seized for further computer forensic examination. 

Miranda was arrested without incident at his residence, and is charged with first degree manufacturing child pornography, third degree endangering the welfare of a child and third degree possession of child pornography. 

Miranda is lodged in the Somerset County Jail pending a detention hearing.
