BERNARDSVILLE NJ - Mary Jane Canose, a former member of the Bernardsville Borough Council, will run for mayor this year, the Bernardsville Republican Municipal Committee has announced. Canose received the support of the committee at its meeting on Tuesday, March 27.
Canose will face Mayor Kevin Sooy in the general election. Sooy recently left the Republican Party, and joined the Democrat Party.
Canose retired in 2014 from the Chester School District, where she served as the Chester School District Business Administrator and Board Secretary. She was employed by the Chester School District from 2003-2014. Before her tenure in Chester, she served in the same capacity in Harding Township from 1998-2003.
Canose received an associate's degree in Applied Science from County College of Morris and a bachelor's degree in Sociology from Kean University. Canose is a vestry member of St. Bernard's Episcopal Church in Bernardsville where she annually co-chairs a food drive for Grace's Kitchen in Plainfield. She also is a member of the Open Space Committee for the Borough of Bernardsville.
Canose and her husband, Gregory, have two children, Joseph and Daniel.
