LITTLE FALLS, NJ -- Brian Brodeur, TAPintoTV’s Executive Producer, sat down with Bob Putt, the Director of American Business Associates (ABA) of New Jersey, to discuss the organization as well as what the future holds for business and networking in these unique times.

The ABA is not just another networking group, Putt explained. “What we do is bring together business professionals, decision-makers, who create relationships over the course of time,” he said. “They build themselves up as business professionals through the guidance and interaction of other professionals.”

The two spoke from East Main Media Studios in Little Falls, NJ, which has been reconfigured to create socially distant interviews with expanded safety protocols.

Of course, referrals for work are welcome and shared among ABA members, but the real value of the group isn’t referrals, it’s resources, which was highlighted as the coronavirus pandemic took hold in New Jersey. Putt said that every ABA member was able to obtain emergency PPP funding from the federal government due to those resources.

A community bank, Connect One, is a member of the ABA and provided input and even helped members wade through federal applications. The ABA also has employment attorneys and accountants as members, who advised on topics such as payroll issues and how to ensure funding was properly allocated. As a result, members “were light years ahead of most business professionals,” Putt said.

While the future is uncertain, “things are going to be very different,” Putt said. “It’s just the way the world has turned.” The ABA is trying to help members through this crisis. “What I’m trying to do is create educational formats that will help and guide them as to how to come out of this pandemic,” he said.

The ABA is looking at programs that allow members to plan ahead and evaluate the status of their business, while also bringing the collective brain power of the group as a resource.
