Peapack-Gladstone Council to Hire North Caldwell Clerk

PEAPACK AND GLADSTONE NJ - The Peapack-Gladstone Borough Council will consider hiring a new borough clerk at tonight's borough council meeting.   On the agenda of tonight's meeting are Resolution 116 and Resolution 117 providing for the hiring of Nancy Bretzger as Borough Clerk and as Registrar.

A resident of Randolph Township, Ms. Bretzger currently serves as the Borough Clerk in the Borough of North Caldwell.   She serves as an officer in the Municipal Clerks Association of Essex County.  Ms. Bretzger fills the vacancy created by the resignation of former Borough Clerk-Administrator John Gregory.  She will earn an annual salary of $70,000, and serve as a full time municipal clerk.

The hiring of a full time clerk is a departure from past practice in the borough hall.  The borough has in the past employed one person to serve both as Borough Clerk and Borough Administrator.  According to Councilman Roy Smith, there was a lot of discussion and analysis of the work load.   As a result of that discussion, there will be a full-time administrator and a full-time clerk.

Councilman Smith expressed enthusiasm about the new hire.

"This is a win-win," said Smith.  "It is a good value to her and a good value for the taxpayers of Peapack-Gladstone."
