PEAPACK AND GLADSTONE, NJ - The Peapack-Gladstone Republican Committee announced today that it will interview candidates interested in seeking the Republican nomination for two borough council seats on March 29, 2016 at 7:00 PM at the Peapack-Gladstone Borough Hall.

To seek endorsement of the committee the candidate must have lived in town for one year on the date of the screening and be a registered Republican, according to today's announcement.  Interested candidates should contact the committee via email at PGNJGOPCOMMITTEE@gmail.com  by March 27.  A committee member will respond to arrange an interview time.

After the interviews, the committee will make a recommendation to the Somerset County Republican Organization as to who it believes should run in the primary election with the county organization's endorsement.  The county committee will make the final determination as to who will run in Column "A" on the Somerset County Republican Organization line on the ballot in the Republican Primary.  Those candidates for municipal office would share the line with Somerset County Sheriff Frank Provenzano and Freeholder Patricia Walsh, who are running for re-election.

Any candidate who intends to seek the Republican nomination for borough council must file nominating petitions on or before April 4.  Any candidate who files a valid petition can run for the Republican nomination, regardless of whether the municipal committee or the county chairman endorse.  The primary election will be held on June 8.  The two candidates who win the primary will run in the general election against the nominee, if any, of the Democrat Party, and any independent candidates.

The two winners of the general election will serve three-year terms on the borough council beginning in January 2016.

Councilmen G.P. Caminiti and Mark Corigliano are in the third year of three year terms on the borough council, and are eligible to run for re-election.  As of this date, neither Corigliano nor Caminiti has announced a re-election bid.
