BERNARDS TWP., NJ - Tuesday night's Planning Board meeting is expected to include the first opportunity for public comment on a proposed expansion at Fellowship Village Senior Living for a new community center/theater with 240 seats and also a health center addition.

The Planning Board had planned at an earlier meeting in January to open the public comment period on the application, filed by Fellowship Senior Living, Inc., which is located at 8000 Fellowship Road, off Allen Road.

However, further discussion on the application itself delayed the opening of public comment, said Hank Barre, director of development for Basking Ridge-based Trilogy Reportory Co.

Trilogy, which supports the application for the proposed 240-seat capacity, 21,000-square-foot community center on a portion of Fellowship Village property, is not the applicant, but would stage some productions at the venue if it is built, Barre said.

Meeting set to begin at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday night

Planning Board Secretary Fran Florio said it appears that public comment on the Fellowship Village project will begin at the meeting set for 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 2.

Earlier in January, the board also granted the applicant's request to continue the public comment session at a later meeting scheduled for March 22 if additional time is needed, Florio said. Planning Board meetings are held at the municipal building at 1 Collyer Lane in downtown Basking Ridge.

Fellowship Village offers a number of independent and assisted living arrangements for residents of the complex, as well as common facilities.

The proposed community center would have a flexible design that could allow the building to be used for multiple purposes by Fellowship Village residents, as well as a theater that could be open for public productions, Barre said in a telephone interview.

Trilogy in involved in a number of productions throughout the year, including the annual Bernards Township Plays in the Park summer series at an outdoor amphitheater at Pleasant Valley Park.

More to come.
