BASKING RIDGE, NJ – No cowboy hats needed to give Western-style horseback riding a try at Lord Stirling Stable, just a sense of adventure.

Somerset County Park Commission Lord Stirling Stable, 256 South Maple Ave. in Basking Ridge, is offering an Introductory Western-style horseback ride on Sunday, Sept. 3, from 10 a.m. to Noon.  Register at the Stable office through Thursday, Aug. 31,  between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. daily. Space is limited.

Participants will enjoy a brief group lesson with one of Lord Stirling Stable’s riding instructors followed by a one-hour guided trail ride through Lord Stirling Park.

The Ride offers individuals the opportunity to experience a trail ride without making any further commitment to the sport.  It is also a great “refresher” for those who have not ridden in a long time. The ride will take place rain or shine. Heavy downpour or hazardous weather conditions may result in cancellation.

Youth and adults who weigh less than 200 lbs., are at least 9 years of age, and are at least 5’ tall are eligible to participate.  Riders between 9 and 18 years old must be registered by a parent or legal guardian. Participants 9-11 years of age must be accompanied by a parent or guardian on the ride.  An approved equestrian helmet and shoes or boots with hard, smooth soles and a definite heel are required and may be borrowed from the Stable for the ride.  

The fee for the ride is $40.00 for Somerset County residents and $50.00 for out of county residents.  Preregistration is required with payment made by cash, check, Visa, MasterCard, American Express or Discover at the time of registration.

Lord Stirling Stable is located within Lord Stirling Park in the Basking Ridge section of Bernards Township, and is nestled within 450 acres of the western portion of the Great Swamp Basin of the Passaic River. The Stable features a large indoor ring, three outdoor rings, daily Lead Line pony rides, and 18 miles of beautiful trails.
