BERNARDSVILLE, NJ — Patrick Caldwell scored two touchdowns to help Bernards to a 34-7 football victory over Gov. Livingston Saturday night at Olcott Field.
The Mountaineers (2-1) got on the board first with 4:07 left in the first quarter when Mike Leanza capped an 11-play, 85-yard drive with a 5-yard touchdown run and Steven Lopez kicked the first of his four extra points.
It took Gov. Livingston just two minutes to tie the game, 7-7, but that was it for the Highlanders. Caldwell scored on a 17-yard run on a reverse with 9:38 left in the first half to give Bernards the lead for good, 14-7.
Caldwell broke a long run later in the quarter, going 66 yards for a TD with 3:37 left for a 21-7 lead.
Quarterback Teddy Gouldin's 28-yard TD pass to Brady Walsh and Gordon Brienza's 4-yard TD run closed out the scoring for the Mountaineers, who won for the second time after losing to Hillside on opening day.
