23rd District Report

The time has come for New Jersey’s Legislature to stop volleying the blame of who created the perilous state of the public employee pension system. We need to get past the political theater of pandering sound bites and start a bipartisan process to develop and implement fiscally responsible solutions. The $80 billion unfunded liability in the pension system will not be solved by borrowing money to make a $1.3 billion payment in July. The premise that the stock market will grow enough to cover the high cost of borrowing and generate ...

Johnny Four Fingers Weekly NFL Picks

CALABASH, NC – The Four Finger man was on vacation last week and somehow my picks didn’t make it so the TAP Coaching Staff called an audible. My ghost writing backup submitted the Week 16 picks. He is no Garoppolo, but he didn’t do too bad. Anyway, he wanted the Saints, but called a push, and lost the Jets by ½. He called the Seahawk win, but blew everything else. I’m still holding to my preseason Super Bowl pick. The Chiefs Win. Happy New Year’s everyone. Here are my picks for week #17. WEEK #17 NFL ...

SOMERSET HILLS, NJ - Rutgers Outfielder Luke Bowerbank is the quiet man.  He doesn't say too much, but his play on the baseball diamond has always spoken volumes.  Baseball fans in the Somerset Hills are used to seeing Luke getting base hits.  Going back to his Somerset Hills Little Leage days the Kiwanis Park, he has gotten hit after hit.   He continued to hit as his Somerset Hills Little League team won the New Jersey state championship in 2009.  He hit a key homerun in the state championship game that year.

GLADSTONE NJ - Mackenzie Dunn (Gill St. Bernards Class of '12) already had a passion for art when she started ninth grade at Gill St. Bernard’s, but she credits her teachers there with helping to hone her skills and broaden her artistic perspective. And so far, it’s paid off beautifully. "My teachers, especially Ms. Kunzman and Mr. Lutz, encouraged me to see all of the possibilities for a career in design and to challenge myself whenever I could," said Dunn, a senior at Carnegie Mellon University’s ...

Under the Gold Dome Trenton Report

TRENTON, NJ — The stalemate between Gov. Chris Christie and state legislators over the beleaguered Transportation Trust Fund continues as the latest compromise proposal cobbled together by lawmakers was rejected by Christie on Monday. The latest plan would increase the state’s gas tax 23 cents per gallon; in return, residents would receive a series of tax cuts/breaks demanded by Christie -- elimination of the state’s estate tax, an increase in the ceiling for retirement income taxes; an increase in the ...
