City Winds Trio to Perform Ragtime Music at Bernardsville Library

The Friends of the Bernardsville Public Library will host a free concert by City Winds Trio on Sunday, February 23 at 3:00 pm in the library’s Community Room.  The group will celebrate the great American music known as Ragtime, performing music by Scott Joplin, the King of Ragtime, and Charles “luckith” Roberts.  Each selection will be introduced with historical information and context.  The trio will also answer questions about the music.

The performers are Crispian Fordham, flute; Meredyth Coleman, oboe; and Yuki Higashi, bassoon.  Mr. Fordham has a Masters’ Degree in Music Performance on flute from the Mannes College of Music.  He has given many solo and chamber music performances in concert halls such as Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Steinway Hall and the United Nations.

Ms. Coleman has been the oboist for City Winds Trio since 2001.  She began her music career first on the violin, starting Suzuki violin at 22 months old.  At ages four and five, Ms. Coleman performed violin on Kansas City local television and a concert with Dr. Suzuki.  She continued violin until the age of 11 and started oboe at age 10.  At the age of 15, Ms. Coleman was appointed Associate Principle Oboe of the Northland Symphony, her first professional orchestral position.  She has performed around the country and won numerous awards.

Yuki Higashi, a native of Japan, began studying bassoon at the age of sixteen.  He received his Bachelors’ and Masters’ in music from the Conservatory of Music at S.U.N.Y. Purchase and Professional Studies Diploma from the Mannes College of Music.  Mr. Higashi is an active freelancer throughout the East Coast as an orchestra and chamber musician.  He plays as bassoonist for the New York Symphony, One World Symphony, Western Piedmont Symphony (NC) and Cape Symphony (MA).

This is a free concert funded by the Friends of the Bernardsville Library.  Light refreshments will be served.  Doors open at 2:45 pm.  No sign-up is needed.
