BERNARDS TWP., NJ _ In cooperation with the Bernards Township parks & recreation department, Basking Ridge-based Trilogy Repertory Co. will this week begin its second set of 'Plays in the Park' outdoor performances with the Lerner and Loewe classic musical, "Brigadoon."
"Brigadoon" is scheduled to be staged at 8 p.m. at the outdoors amphitheater at Pleasant Valley Park off Valley Road on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, Aug. 1, 2 and 3, and on Aug. 8, 9 and 10.
Performances are free, but donations are appreciated, according to Trilogy, which each summer produces the 'Plays in the Park' series.
In July, Trilogy presented William Shakespeare's "The Comedy of Errors" at the PVP amphitheater.
There is seating in the amphitheater, but some 'Plays in the Park' theatergoers bring their own chairs, along with flashlights and picnics.
'Brigadoon' debuted at new indoors theater
Trilogy's production of 'Brigadoon' also opened the new indoor community theater built in cooperation with Trilogy at Fellowship Village last weekend, with the first performance held on Friday, July 26. The opening of the cultural center, to also serve as an indoor theater in the Somerset Hills, was in the planning stage for several years.
"This feast of song and dance from Lerner and Loewe (the team behind "My Fair Lady") has been entrancing audiences for more than seven decades," according to Trilogy. The musical includes such classic and memorable songs like “Almost Like Being in Love” and “I’ll Go Home With Bonnie Jean."
Trilogy president Jaye Barre is directing the production assisted by Marilyn Gamba and McKenna Moore. Musical direction is by Joseph Lesky with choreography by Jill Cookingham, director of Take Flight Dance.
