BEDMINSTER, NJ -- On Tuesday night, incumbent Republican Doug Stevinson was re-elected to the Bedminster Township Committee along with Gina Lisa-Fernandez, a Republican who was running for the first time.

Stevinson and Fernandez, who ran as a team, picked up 59 percent of the vote running against Democrat challengers Zaheer Jan and Jeffrey Beyer.

"I would first like to thank both Zaheer Jan and Jeff Beyer for running a fair, honest and diligent campaign," Stevinson told TAPinto Somerset Hills. "I respect both of them for their willingness to want to serve the residents of Bedminster. I would also like to thank and congratulate my running mate, Gina Fernandez, on her win. Gina’s contributions to the campaign were legion and her dedication to the  Bedminster community is self-evident. Gina will be an asset on the committee from Day One."

Stevinson, whose stated goals include controlling spending, seeking out new shared service arrangements and adopting annual township budgets that fall below the inflation rate, said he was pleased at the increase in voter turnout.

"I would also like to thank the voters for placing their continued trust in me.  We knew coming in that voter turnout was something that had to be addressed early and often throughout the campaign," Stevinson said. "I’m thrilled to see that turnout this year more than tripled since the last cycle back in 2015.  So again, I thank the Bedminster electorate for getting out the vote and reelecting me to another three-year term on the committee.

"In the years to come," Stevinson said, "I will continue to exercise fiscal restraint on budgetary issues while maintaining an eye on our recreational offerings and quality of life issues.  I look forward to working with my fellow committee members to solidify Bedminster’s place at the top of the list of best places to live in New Jersey."

Fernandez released the following message to the Bedminster Republican Municipal Committee Facebook page early Wednesday: "I’d like to express my utmost gratitude to everyone who supported Doug and I in our campaign! We appreciate your encouragement, confidence, and naturally your votes! I truly believe the role of local government is to serve the best interests and needs of all the Bedminster residents, and I intend to do just that! With a strong township committee beside me to guide me, I believe we can keep Bedminster the great place it is to live, work, and raise a family, while also doing my part to help the town evolve. Again, thank you for electing Doug and I for Township Committee!"
