BEDMINSTER, NJ -- Work is progressing on improvements and upgrades to drainage and athletic facilities at Pluckemin Schoolhouse Park on Burnt Mills Road.
Committeeman Douglas Stevinson provided an update at the Oct. 7 Bedminster Township Committee meeting.
“The basketball court there was in desperate need of resurfacing,” Stevinson said. “(When) we put shovels in the ground and realized the drainage is actually part of the problem.”
Stevinson said that the basketball court at the park is in the process of being raised to be more level with the pavilion area. This way, the committeeman said, “you don’t have that runoff down the hill, which causes the cracking and the pitting that causes the failure of the basketball surface itself.”
Stevinson also said that the fence at the existing baseball field might be removed and repositioned to the back part of the property, “where it gets very sloppy and wet.” He said that by running this line along the back, the entire field would then be opened up to be usable.
“All of the draining has been rerouted away from these areas (the basketball court and ball field) to get it off the playing surfaces and out of the field,” Stevinson said.
“It’s coming along very, very well.”
