BEDMINSTER, NJ -- Larry Jacobs was chosen in a straw poll to continue in his present role as the mayor of Bedminster for 2020.
Jacobs, a Republican, was a unanimous choice in a straw poll taken at Monday night's meeting of the Township Committee, the first meeting since the Nov. 5 election.
In order for the next year's mayor to reach out to volunteers for possible appointments to committees and commissions for 2020, it is beneficial to know in advance who the future mayor will be. Therefore, a “straw vote” by the members of the 2020 Township Committee is taken at the first meeting following the November General Election.
Committeewoman-elect Gina Fernandez was invited to participate, and she cast her vote for Jacobs, along with the rest of the committee members.
Jacobs is the senior member of the Township Committee. An environmental attorney with the Wilentz, Goldman and Spitzer law firm in Woodbridge, Jacobs is completing his seventh year on the committee.
