BERNARDS TWP., NJ _ Dog and cat owners in the member towns of the Bernards Township health department are invited to bring their pets for a free clinic offering rabies prevention shots that is scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 11.

No appointments are necessary to obtain the shots for dogs and cats at the clinic, scheduled for 10 a.m. to noon at the Bernards Township public works garage, 277 S. Maple Ave., Basking Ridge.

In Bernards Township, all dogs and cats must be licensed yearly, as per state and local law. Proof of rabies vaccination is necessary to renew dog and cat licenses, which expire on January 31 of each year. Rabies vaccinations obtained through the health department on Jan. 11 will be on record with Bernards Township, according to the health department website.

The member towns of the Bernards Township health department include not only Bernards Township, but also Bernardsville, Long Hill Township, Peapack and Gladstone, Chester Borough, and Mendham Borough.
