BEDMINSTER, NJ -- The township recently accepted three requests for proposal for the position of municipal prosecutor with the shared court that the municipality conducts jointly with Bernardsville and Peapack-Gladstone, according to Township Clerk Judith Sullivan.

Miles Winder III, the current municipal prosecutor, is moving in late September. He has offered his assistance in the interview process for his eventual replacement.

A former judge in Bernardsville and the president of the New Jersey State Bar Association, Winder, 72, has been a member of the state bar association since 1972.

"We should recommend to the Shared Court Committee to take him up on that offer," said Bedminster Mayor Lawrence Jacobs of Winder's proposal to help in the transition process.

The Shared Court Services Advisory Committee, comprised of two representatives from each town, reviews candidates and makes recommendations to the three municipalities in cases such as this one.

The current Shared Municipal Court is held on Tuesday beginning at approximately 10 a.m. until all cases are heard (approximately 5 p.m.). There also is a proposal being considered that would expand the Shared Municipal Court sessions to a second half-day or full day on Thursdays by merging Bernards Township court at the Bedminster court location.
