BERNARDSVILLE, NJ -- Large sections of Olcott Avenue near Bernards High School have been closed to through traffic this week for a project conducted by New Jersey American Water.
The water company has been drilling in the street to prepare for the installation of a new water line.
"All residents have still had access to their homes, and the blockade has been easy to get around," said Lt. John Gardner of the Bernardsville Police Department. "It should be completed and the road should be reopened (to through traffic) very soon, possibly by the end of this week."
The work was scheduled to be done and completed far in advance of the opening of school in four weeks.
The police department reports that there will be a larger New Jersey American Water project near Olcott Squre in the center of town, but the borough has not yet received a schedule from the water company on when that will take place.
