BASKING RIDGE, NJ - Bobbie Battista, who was among the original anchors for CNN Headline News and hosted CNN’s “TalkBack Live,” has died at the age of 67. According to Wendy Guarisco, family spokeswoman, Battista lost her 4-year battle with cervical cancer on Tuesday, March 3.
Battista, a New Jersey native whose family lived in Basking Ridge, currently lived in Atlanta. Battista’s husband, John, called her “the consummate trooper” in her fight against the disease.
Battista was one of the original CNN Headline News anchors when the network launched in 1981. She spent 20 years as an anchor on several news programs on the network. She covered major events including The Challenger disaster, the assassination attempt on President Ronald Reagan, the Gulf War and the September 11th attacks.
She began her TV news career as a local anchor and producer for WRAL-TV in Raleigh, North Carolina.
She is survived by her husband of nearly 25 years, John, and her step daughter.
