BASKING RIDGE, NJ -- The Bernards boys cross country team came in second in the Somerset County meet held Wednesday at Pleasant Valley Park.

Chris Reyda finished fifth in the 5,000-meter race with a time of 16:31.5. Edward Byers was right behind Reyda with a time of 16:41.

Other Bernards runners included Ryan Kleinert (15th, 17:11), Tim Griffin (20th, 17:26) and Tim McGrath (25th, 17:40). The Mountaineers' average time of 17:07 was the second-fastest on that track in Bernards school history.

Bernards' 75 points trailed only first-place Ridge, which had 42.

In the freshman division, Bernards came in first with a team score of 26, besting second-place Ridge's 29. Patrick Griffin came in second, Tyler Stevens third, Carson Beach fourth, Markus Dickson eighth and George Flaherty ninth. Ty Stauffer and Matt Aguero rounded out the top seven Mountaineers in the freshman race.
