BERNARDSVILLE, NJ -- Eight members of the Bernards football team have been named to the 2019 Mid-State 38 Conference's All-Valley Division First Team, as selected by the division's coaches.
Nine more Mountaineer football players were chosen for the division's second team.
Junior quarterback Teddy Gouldin, senior wide receiver Joey Billotti, senior guard John Salliard and junior kicker Steven Lopez were named to the first team offense. Junior linebacker Luke Burns, senior defensive back Jackson Tantleff, and senior linebackers Lucas Ritchie and Gavin Chieff were named to the first team defense.
Gouldin, who is being recruited by Wake Forest, Rutgers and several Ivy League and Patriot League colleges, completed 63 percent of his passes for 1,933 yards and 21 touchdowns in 2019. Billotti caught 46 passes for six TDs and a 16.2-yard average, and he had 1,119 all-purpose yards. Lopez kicked five field goals in seven attempts and was 31-for-35 on extra point attempts.
Burns was in on 155 tackles, one of the highest totals in New Jersey (TAPinto Somerset Hills will be featuring Burns in a separate upcoming article). Tantleff led Bernards in interceptions with seven, and also caught 28 passes for 390 yards and five TDs. Ritchie made 56 tackles, seven for losses. Chieff made 106 tackles, seven behind the line of scrimmage.
Bernards players on the division's second team were: (OFFENSE) Sophomore RB Mike Leanza, senior tackle Austin McCrann and senior center Hugo Gini; and (DEFENSE) junior DL Brandon Krug, sophomore DL John Perling, and junior defensive backs Evan Farlow, AJ Mino, Pat Caldwell and Max Gray.
