BERNARDSVILLE, NJ -- The Bernards football team built a big halftime lead and went on to post a 44-6 victory over St. Thomas Aquinas of Edison on Friday night.

Junior quarterback Teddy Gouldin passed for three touchdowns and ran for another for the Mountaineers (6-1), who won their sixth straight game.

Sophomore halfback Mike Leanza rushed for the first two TDs for Bernards, which took a 14-6 lead in the first quarter. Gouldin's 30-yard TD pass to Lucas Ritchie gave the Mountaineers a 23-6 lead going into halftime.

In the third quarter, Gouldin connected with Jackson Tantleff on a 65-yard scoring pass and Steven Lopez converted the PAT for a 30-6 lead. Gouldin hit Joey Billotti on a 20-yard TD pass and also kept for a 20-yard TD run in the second half.
