ROSELLE, NJ -- Bernards built a six-touchdown lead by halftime and coasted home with a 42-12 football victory over Roselle on Saturday.
Teddy Gouldin passed for three touchdowns and ran for one for the Mountaineers (3-1), who had a 42-6 lead at halftime. Gouldin completed 10 of 11 passes for 163 yards in the game.
Gouldin's 27-yard TD pass to Jackson Tantleff and Steven Lopez' extra point kick gave Bernards a 7-0 lead. Mike Leanza's 3-yard TD run late in the first quarter extended the lead to 14-0. Tantleff finished with five catches for 103 yards.
Leanza also scored early in the second quarter, taking a screen pass from Gouldin 13 yards for a TD with 11:46 left in the half. Gouldin's conversion pass to Joey Billotti gave Bernards a 21-0 lead.
After a Roselle touchdown, Luke Burns returned the ensuing kickoff for a TD for Bernards. Gouldin's third TD pass of the half went for 18 yards to AJ Mino with 1:40 left. After Gavin Chieff recovered a fumble deep in Rams territory, Gouldin scored on a 6-yard keeper and Bernards had a 42-6 lead at halftime.
Bernards next will host Delaware Valley Friday night at 7 p.m.
