Corrosive Spill from Overturned Truck Shuts Down Busy Route 28/Finderne Avenue Intersection


BRIDGEWATER, NJ - A truck overturned at a busy intersection Wednesday morning, spilling a corrosive liquid on to the roadway, with nearby residents advised to stay indoors.

Police expect traffic in the area of Finderne Avenue, Route 28 and surrounding roadways will be affected through Wednesday evening.

The truck, owned by Solid Logistics LLC of Newark, was traveling west on Route 28 and attempted to make a left turn onto Finderne Avenue when the Freightliner tractor struck a traffic light pole and rolled on to its passenger side around 9 a.m., spilling the lquid contents it was hauling, according to Bridgewater police.

The driver of the tractor trailer was not injured.

Somerset County Haz-Mat, along with state and local agencies worked to cleanse the site throughout the day.

Students at Adamsville School, located nearby, were dismissed early.

Much of the area was on a "shelter in place order" by police throughout the day, but, by 3 p.m., only residents within a one-block radius of Finderne Avenue and Route 28 were advised to stay indoors.

Bridgewater Township Police will be updating the Facebook page with more details as cleanup continues.
