BRIDGEWATER, NJ – Cosmetology instructors Julie Francis and Paige Garruto, along with their students, held the yearly Somerset County Vocational & Technical High School Cut-A-Thon & Toy Drive Dec. 2.

“This year was the most successful Cut-A-Thon that we have held to date,” Francis said. “We are extremely proud of all of the students who participated; they all worked with the highest level of professionalism and technical skill.  We raised $879 to be donated to CureSearch for Childhood Cancer Research and received 18 toys.”

All proceeds from the event are being donated to CureSearch for Childhood Cancer Research and toys are being sent to the Memorial Sloan Kettering Pediatric Cancer Center in memory of Francis’ niece, Mackenzie Wright.  At age 7, Mackenzie Wright of Delaware Township lost her battle with Alveolar Rhabdomyosarcoma.  Alveolar Rhabdomyosarcoma is a rare form of cancer of the connective tissues typically found in children.

The toy drive will continue to run until Dec. 18, as the delivery will be made to Sloan Kettering Pediatric Cancer Center Dec. 19. To make a donation, please contact Francis or Garruto at 908-526-8900, ext. 7260 or email jfrancis@scvts.net / pgarruto@scvts.net
