Peter Jacob, Democrat candidate for the 7th Congerssional District seat now held by Republican Leonard Lance, will open a campaign office in Somerville Aug. 2.

SOMERVILLE, NJ – Democrat Peter Jacob, running to represent New Jersey’s 7th Congressional District, will host the grand opening of his campaign headquarters at 131 N. Gaston Ave. between 7-9 p.m. Aug. 2.

The 30-year-old is an upstart in the political arena, having never run for public office. A social worker, he will try to unseat Republican incumbent Leonard Lance, a Hunterdon County resident running for his fifth term in the House.

Though a newcomer to the political scene, Jacob did receive 45,272 votes from Democrats in the June 7th New Jersey primary election, the most votes ever recorded in a 7th District primary.  Lance received 31,489 votes in the Republican primary.

The last time a Democrat represented the 7th District was in 1981.

Following the 2010 US Census, the Congressional Map was redrawn so that it now includes portions of Essex, Morris, Somerset, Union and Warren counties, as well as the entirety of Hunterdon County.

Tuesday night’s grand opening will feature music, giveaways and an opportunity to learn more about Jacob’s stands on the issues.
