Hillsborough HS Grad Jeremy Shipley Continues Winning Ways at The Citadel

CHARLESTON, SC – Jeremy Shipley, a 2017 graduate of Hillsborough High School and standout track and field athlete, is continuing his winning ways at The Citadel, celebrating its 175th anniversary as one of the nation’s foremost military colleges.

A freshman and member of The Citadel Class of 2021, Shipley spent three years as a member of the HHS cross country team and 4 years as a member of the school’s Track and Field team .

Shipley competes in middle distance events; his best times at HHS were 1:57 in the 800 meters and 16:32 in the 5K.

Shortly after checking in with the other 800 freshmen at The Citadel, Shipley and the rest of The Citadel’s cross country team competed in the Carolina Challenge on Sept. 2.

The men's squad took fourth place overall with a score of 96, and the women's team finished fifth with 117.
 
Senior Jamie Cunningham finished first for the Bulldogs, 17th overall in the 5,000 meters with a time of 16 minutes, 53.20 seconds. Shipley was the second Bulldog to cross the finish line with a time of 16:59.20, with senior Michael Lantz coming in a close third for the Bulldogs in 17:05.00.

Shipley is a criminal justice major.
 
The Bulldogs will compete in the Winthrop Invitational on Saturday, Sept.16 in Rock Hill, SC. All meet updates can be found at CitadelSports.com.
