Hillsborough Police Arrest Woman for Prostitution

Danielle Bellford, 20, of Branchburg, was arrested in Hillsborough for prostitution and promoting the prostitution of a 16-year-old girl.

SOMERVILLE, NJ – A 20-year-old Branchburg woman was arrested in Hillsborough and charged with prostituiton and promoting the prostitution of a 16-year-old girl, according to Somerset County Prosecutor Michael H. Robertson.

Danielle Belford, 20, of South Branch Road, Branchburg faces charges of 3rd degree, endangering the welfare of a child, and 4th degree promoting prostitution by procuring a prostitute for a patron, according to Robertson.

The Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office was tipped on May 11 that Belford was engaging in prostitution as well as negotiating arrangements to utilize the 16-year-old in prostitution.

A subsequent investigation by detectives from the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Sex Crimes/Child Abuse Unit, the Major Crimes Unit, and the Hillsborough Police Department confirmed that Belford was advertising prostitution services for herself and the victim. 

On May 12, a Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office undercover detective contacted Belford through her online advertisement and made arrangements to meet with her. During this meeting Belford negotiated with the undercover detective for a sexual act involving herself and the 16 year old victim. She was immediatley placed under arrest by detectives from the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office and the Hillsborough Police Department, according to Hillsborough Township Chief of Police Darren Powell

Belford was released on her own recognizance.  The 16-year-old was turned over to the care of the New Jersey Division of Child Protection and Permanency. 

Detectives are continuing the investigation.
