One Person Killed, Two Injured in Head-On Crash in Piscataway

PISCATAWAY, NJ – Authorities are investigating a fatal head-on collision in which one driver was killed and two others were injured in a crash on River Road in Piscataway early Saturday morning.

The deceased motorist was identified as Steve Kemmlein, 59, of Wayne, who was killed when his truck was struck by a car driven by Darrius Griffin Jr., 25, of Piscataway, according to a joint statement with Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew C. Carey and Chief Scott Cartmell of the Piscataway Police Department.

Kimmlein was pronounced dead at the scene following the crash which occurred on River Road at 4:25 a.m.

The other driver and his passenger were taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Medical Center in New Brunswick. Griffin is listed in critical condition and his passenger is in stable condition.

The preliminary investigation has determined that Griffin while driving on River Road crossed into oncoming traffic and crashed his 2016 Nissan Altima into Kimmlein’s vehicle, a 1999 Ford Ranger Pick-up., according to police.
