WALDORF, MD - The Somerset Patriots (7-0, 42-28) defeated the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs (3-4, 29-41) by a score of 7-1 on Tuesday night at Regency Furniture Stadium. The win pushes the Patriots’ season high win streak to seven games and keeps them undefeated in the second half.
The Patriots struck first in the second inning when Endy Chavez hit an opposite field RBI ground-rule double to plate Matt Oberste, who led off the inning with a triple.

The Patriots broke the game wide open in the fifth inning. After Southern Maryland starting pitcher Paul Clemens (1-5) got the first two outs in the inning, the next five Patriots would reach base to knock Clemens out of the game. This included a Justin Trapp RBI double, and a two-run double from Yovan Gonzalez. After reliever Jason Creasy came into the ballgame, Massey put the finishing touches on the inning, driving home another two runs with a single.
Somerset starting pitcher Duane Below (6-2) picked up his fifth straight victory, pitching six innings while allowing six hits, one run, one walk, and striking out three. Below’s ERA now sits at a measly 2.85, good for third in the league. Meanwhile, his six wins are tied for second most in the league.
Clemens took the loss for Southern Maryland, pitching 4.2 innings, while allowing all seven runs on eight hits and five walks to go with two strikeouts.
