SOMERVILLE, NJ – No more ruts, no more steel plates, no more elevated manhole covers and no more dodging potholes on Bridge Street.

North and South Bridge Street, as well as several  less-traveled side streets throughout the borough, will be repaved beginning Sept. 11.

PSE&G began work in April breaking up the roadway surfaces to excavate and remove old cast iron pipes to be replaced with upgraded plastic and coated steel piping designed to be more durable and longer-lasting.

Once the replacement lines were installed and the excavations filled in, those portions of the roads dug up were paved over, leaving an uneven surface for vehicles to drive over.

With the infrastructure work completed, PSE&G will return to the borough to smooth things over.

The borough is advising residents that there will be more inconvenience, as there will be road closures and detours, which may prevent access to residences and businesses, according to an advisory from info@somerville.com.

Here is the paving schedule and roads affected as provided by the borough:

Week of Sept. 11:

 - North Bridge Street from Route 22 to East Summit Street - paving will be done during day time hours;

- South Bridge Street from West Main Street to 5th Street - paving will be done during evening hours.
