Disco will come alive on stage at The Theatre at Raritan Valley Community College in Branchburg when Columbia Artists Theatricals presents its staging of the musical, Saturday Night Fever, Friday, Jan. 15, at 8 p.m.
The production is part of the Theatre’s Major Artists Series.
One of the most beloved dance stories of all time, Saturday Night Fever depicts the story of young Tony Manero, who wants to dance away to a better life in 1970s Brooklyn. Based on the movie starring John Travolta, Saturday Night Fever is packed with legendary hits from the Bee Gees, including "Stayin’ Alive," "Night Fever," "Jive Talking," "You Should Be Dancing," and "How Deep is Your Love."
The musical also includes several songs written especially for this production.
The RVCC performance will kick off Saturday Night Fever’s national tour. In the two weeks leading up to the performance, The Theatre at RVCC will host a rehearsal period for the 23 cast members and live orchestra.
The cast and crew will arrive on January 4 - complete with costumes, set pieces, drops, lighting instruments, actors, director, designers, choreographer, stagehands and producer - and will put all the elements together in order to launch a five-month, 38-state and Canadian tour.
Fueled by the vintage Bee Gees’ hits, this contemporary retelling of the classic story captures the energy, passion and life-changing moments that have thrilled movie audiences since 1977.
