Wouldn’t you love a warm welcome this holiday season? That is exactly what Downtown Somerville is offering at their Shop Small Celebration, which highlights the authentic experiences that independent businesses can uniquely provide. That’s good news for shoppers and diners: a long list of small businesses and restaurants in downtown Somerville are waiting for them with a wide range of exclusives on November 26th.

This Saturday, shoppers can follow sidewalk stickers featuring the Downtown Somerville Shop Small logo that identify participating businesses throughout the district. For those who like to plan in advance, more detailed information about the Shop Small Celebration, including a downloadable map of participating businesses and offers, can be found at www.downtownsomerville.com/shopsmall16.

“In a time where you can buy almost anything online, shopping Downtown is all about the experience and the atmosphere. Stroll the streets, spend time with friends and family, and relax and enjoy the holiday season,” said Beth Anne Macdonald, Executive Director of the Downtown Somerville Alliance.  “Spending time downtown celebrates community, and on November 26, visitors will be treated to the magical backdrop and inclusive spirit of a real neighborhood.”

The DSA has captured that essence in two new videos produced to highlight the personalized nature of shopping and dining in Downtown Somerville, and the creative and talented people behind the businesses that draw those seeking that authentic experience. These videos offer a quick glimpse into why downtown Somerville was recently designated as one of New Jersey’s “Great Places” by the American Planning Association-NJ Chapter. The videos are airing all season on local cable channels in the area as well as via social media.

“Some people get a rush out of the crowds at the malls and big box stores and the competition to be first in line or get heavily discounted items, but many also appreciate the personal gifts, the cozy restaurants and eclectic tea or coffee spots, the historic storefronts, and the brisk stroll along the downtown streets. They will find all of that in abundance in Downtown Somerville,” concluded DSA Chair Tom Genova.
