SOMERVILLE, NJ - Capt. Steve SanAntonio of the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office has received a “Trilogy Award” for completing an executive development leadership program held at the John H. Stamler Police Academy in Scotch Plains.

The week-long session hosted by the Union County Sheriff’s Department featured two instructors, retired Chief Dean Crisp and retired Chief Les Kachurek with the Federal Bureau of Investigation Law Enforcement Executive Development Association.

The FBI-LEEDA Executive Leadership Institute is an innovative program designed for executive-level law enforcement leaders that focuses on the evolving challenges facing the law enforcement profession.

LEEDA programs focus on the development of supervisor, command and executive skills to holistically cultivate leadership abilities. Topics covered include generational leadership, paradigms and change objectives, power and influence, transactional and transformational leadership, and the history and direction of law enforcement. When an officer completes all three classes, they receive a Trilogy Award — an honor Capt. SanAntonio received.

“Professional development, including keeping up with the latest leadership models, is important as it helps us promote best practices for our personnel and the community,” said Colonel Richard Borden, Somerset County Sheriff’s Office. “LEEDA focuses on executive skills and the liabilities faced by supervisors and command staff. In this program, officers learn about best practices, court rulings and how generational differences impact interactions with employees, from rookies to experienced veterans.”

“Being able to identify the best approaches to influence employees is a skill worth learning because it helps you develop the leadership of your staff,” SanAntonio said. “In the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office, we have new employees blending in with veterans and it’s beneficial to understand generational differences in order to get the best cooperation and delivery of services.”

“The Somerset County Sheriff’s Office is always looking for the best practices in leadership and has scheduled a number of supervisors to attend LEEDA programs to build their leadership skills as a whole,” said Sheriff Frank J. Provenzano.
