BASKING RIDGE, NJ - The Immaculata Spartans (4-2) returned to Somerville Friday night with a win after ramping up their offense and defense in the final quarter to secure a 21-14 victory over the Ridge Red Devils (2-4).

After a scoreless first quarter Ridge drove the ball behind a strong running game to take a 7-0 lead midway thru the second quarter.  Immaculata was forced to punt and Ridge started to move the ball again but were stopped cold by an Xavier Powell interception. The Spartan offense took over on the Ridge 11-yard line and Nate Barnett capitalized immediately with a touchdown pass to Stephen Dwyer.

Barnett then picked up a low snap and found Donaven Rivera in the end zone for a two-point conversion to give the Spartans an 8-7 lead going into halftime.

A scoreless third quarter set up a dramatic fourth quarter.  Immaculata drove the ball downfield behind the strong running of Allen Bello.  Nate Barnett finished the drive with a short  touchdown run to increase Immaculata's lead to 14-7.  Ridge answered quickly and tied the game at 14-14 after a long touchdown run with 8 minutes left in the game.  The Immaculata passing game came alive and stormed down the field with a long completion to Shahkyle Matthews. Barnett finished the drive with another corner touchdown  pass to Stephen Dwyer to retake the lead 21-14.

The Spartans defense took over and forced a series of punts.  Immaculata's Ryan Loften won this battle with several outstanding kicks which gave the Red Devils poor field position.  Ridge had their last hopes ended by a Patrick Frauenheim interception to end the game.

Up next for the Spartans is their Homecoming game at Brooks Field in Somerville on Friday, Oct. 20 against Westfield at 7 p.m.
