SOMERVILLE, NJ - For nearly 150 years America has paused on Memorial Day to remember those who have died while serving in the country’s armed forces.

In the history of Immaculata High School, there has been only one former student lost in combat, Staff Sgt Andrew Lobosco ’98, an Immaculata Hall of Famer.

Lobosco was one of five deceased military heroes honored at the Somerset County VoTech High School Proud to be an American Day earlier this week. Immaculata sent over 20 students as a way to honor Lobosco’s sacrifice.

Three Star Mothers (mothers of the fallen soldiers) including  Bonnie Lobosco, were on hand and Immaculata students personally greeted her.

A cannon was fired in memory of Lobosco, who was killed in Afghanistan. In addition, the student visitors watched military-conducted aircraft demonstrations, using a virtual reality simulator brought in by the US Navy. They were able to hear technical talks about the equipment and ask questions of the military personnel on hand. Each school participating in this event received a commemorative wreath.

Immaculata has placed its wreath and a plaque in the school's entry lobby on Mountain Avenue.
