SOMERVILLE, NJ - A few years ago, Immaculata High School launched a Solar Suitcase initiative in which suitcase-size solar generators assembled by students in the Introduction to Engineering class, are sent to remote global locations to provide energy in critical areas, such as hospitals and schools.

This year, suitcases went to Tanzania, Puerto Rico, and Liberia.

This project so impacted Ysobelle Reyes '18 that she asked family and friends to support the solar suitcase initiative. The result: she personally raised $2,000 to assist with the purchase of solar suitcases next year.

That donation will allow Immaculata to purchase 3-4 suitcases to be built by the Intro to Engineering class.

"Children and their families will all benefit from this gift of light," Reyes said. "This donation is a way to thank all those at Immaculata, who give their time to this mission. Their kindness truly exemplifies the pillars of Immaculata and we are proud to be part of this program."
