SOMERVILLE, NJ - High school juniors and seniors are invited to participate in the Louis Bay 2nd Future Municipal Leaders Scholarship Competition, according to Mayor Dennis Sullivan.

This statewide competition, sponsored by the New Jersey State League of Municipalities, requires a written application and an original 500 -word essay on this year’s topic;” How has local government played a role in your life regarding the ongoing pandemic?”

The Mayor delivered materials to both Somerville High School and Immaculata High School on March 1. All submissions are due back to the students’ hometown mayor by April 2 for judging by a panel chosen by each mayor. One selection per town will then be sent to Trenton for final consideration. Winners of the three $1,000.00 scholarships will be announced around May 4.

“We have a lot of talent in our schools”, Mayor Sullivan said. “Last year I received three excellent essays, one of which earned state semi-final recognition. I look forward to matching and even exceeding our 2020 performance, and I wish all of our students good luck in this endeavor and continued success in all of their studies.”
