Somerville: Spartans Lose; Matthews Legs 99-Yard TD Return

SOMERVILLE, NJ - Immaculata High School's regular season ended with a tough loss Friday night to the undefeated Phillipsburg Stateliners 43-14.

The Spartans (5-4) now look forward to the Group 2 playoffs starting next week and are waiting for the results of Saturday's games for their opponent to be determined.

The highlight of the game for the Spartans was a 99-yard kick off return for a touchdown by Shahkyle Matthews.

Bryan Santana also showed he is ready for the playoffs, with a great series of runs resulting in the other touchdown for the Spartans.  

On a very busy night for Spartan punter Ryan Loften, he continued his great play.  Loften adjusted well to a strong wind and kept the start of each Stateliner drive on their side of the field.
