SOMERVILLE, NJ - Setting a record will have to wait.
The Somerville Street Strum scheduled for 2-6 p.m. Sunday, Aug 6, was postponed by the organizers, according to a posting on their website because of predictions for severe weather afternoon, though the sun was still shining and the skies were still blue as of 3:45 p.m.
That changed quickly, as torrential rains slammed central New Jersey by 4:20 p.m.
Sponsored by Friends of Somerset County Youth, 500 guitarists were expected to gather on the Division Street pedestrian mall to perform Woody Guthrie's classic folk song, "This Land is Your Land." in unison, which would have set a record for simultaneous strumming, according to the organizers.
A new date has not been scheduled.
