SOMERVILLE, NJ - The Downtown Somerville Alliance is building an igloo village, a one-of-a-kind public seating experience on Division Street.
The igloos will formally open Saturday, Dec, 21st and will be available for free to the public through Friday, March 13.
Each igloo will feature covered lounge seating, board/card games, light food and beverage service from Fresh Tiki Bar, and a heating component for a cozy ambiance.
“People love Division Street in the spring and summer months for its public seating,” said Natalie Pineiro, executive director of the Downtown Somerville Alliance, “we want to bring that same energy to the winter months with our winter Igloos, and give patrons of Somerville somewhere to enjoy the unique atmosphere that is characteristic of Downtown Somerville.”
According to Pineiro, similar igloos are used by private restaurants in various parts of New Jersey, but Downtown Somerville will be the first to utilize them as public seating.
A sixth igloo will open in January, according to Pineiro.
