Among the benefits to the partnership are enhancing student engagement opportunities including internships, co-ops, job placement, and work on joint projects, including customized tools to promote diversity and inclusion.

“The collaboration will build brand awareness of FDU in Somerset County by recognizing FDU as a higher education partner along with RVCC, Rutgers, and Princeton," said Mike Kerwin, SCBP president/CEO. "This will facilitate business connections with Somerset County companies with focus on retail and hospitality, and manufacturing organizations.”

Kerwin further explained that building stronger connections between the SCBP and higher education is one of Somerset County’s top economic development objectives. The SCBP and FDU will strive to develop activities that address the business needs and challenges of the Business Partnership members; workforce development, talent acquisition and ways to leverage faculty expertise are considered key areas of focus.

“This initiative matches our strategic objective to expand the depth and scope of the university’s collaborations with industry in New Jersey and the surrounding region,” said Jackie Lue Raia, director of corporate outreach and training at FDU’s Petrocelli College of Continuing Studies.
