SOMERVILLE, NJ – Somerville Republican Municipal Chairman Rich Reitman has issued a call for candidates for Somerville Borough Council.

“Over the course of the past few weeks, Somerville has dealt with the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, a time where leadership is critically important," Reitman said "Thanks to our business leaders and private citizens, Somerville is at the forefront of the support effort for medical personnel and first responders.”

The Somerville GOP Municipal Committee is seeking individuals who understand the importance of governmental leadership year 'round to serve as candidates for two Borough Council seats on the ticket in November with former Mayor, Freeholder Brian Gallagher who is running for re-election as Somerset County Freeholder.

The Borough of Somerville is governed by six council members who are elected for staggered three-year terms with two council members elected each year. Each council member is appointed by the mayor to two of six standing committees. There are also additional liaison assignments for other committees and commissions. 

The council meets every first and third Monday of the with executive session beginning at 6:30 PM with the regular council workshop following.

Candidates must be registered Republicans and have voted in Somerville in November of 2019 or years prior.
