HILLSBOROUGH, NJ - Deputy Mayor Shawn Lipani, owner of Central Jersey Nurseries, loaded up a trailer and made deliveries of tulips to four assisted living care residences in the township Saturday to make certain that all the Moms in those facilities would have Mother's Day flowers to brighten their day.
Lending a hand was Mayor Doug Tomson, his daughter Sarah, and Janine Erickson, who will be running with Tomson for a seat on the Township Committee in November.
It was Erickson who proposed the gesture, according to Lipani.
The COVID-19 pandemic and social distancing restrictions have caused hardships for residents of the assisted care facilities and their families and friends who routinely visit. Personal contact is prohibited. Erickson wanted to ensure that residents who might not receive visitors on Mother's Day were not forgotten.
Lipani contacted Hionis Wholesale Florists in Whitehouse Station and made arrangements for the tulips at a discounted price.
Flats of tulips were delivered to the Bridgeway Care & Rehabilitation Center; All- American assisted living, Brookdale assisted living and Foothill Acres assisted living.
