SOMERVILLE, NJ - The Public Service Electric Gas Foundation has contributed $20,000 for installation of a battery charging station for electric vehicles in Municipal Parking Lot #1 as part of the New Jersey Sustainability Program.
The ChargePoint electric vehicle charging station is located n Lot 1 - spaces #1074 #1075. The parking lot is accessible off Maple Avenue and is behind the stores facing out on West Main Street. Cars exit the lot on to North Davenport Street.
The ChargePoint EV station is available 24 hours a day. The Borough Council established a rate of 50 cents per hour up to a maximum of four hours, an extremely reasonable to encourage regular use, according to Mayor Dennis Sullivan.
“Somerville’s Environmental Commission was able to procure the grant to install the EV Station," Sullivan said. "We want to thank the PSEG Foundation, Sustainable Jersey, Somerville’s Environmental Commission and the Department of Public Works for their collaboration on this project."
Somerset County also installed a charging station on East Main Street.
"We continue to promote better environmental practices and sustainability within the borough," Sullivan said.
