SOMERVILLE, NJ - The medical staff at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital/Somerset has found over the past three months that thanks comes in many forms from an extended community grateful for their extraordinary efforts fighting back against the COVID-19 pandemic.

A steady stream of free meals purchased by donors from area restaurants arrives daily, from pizzas to three-course meals, a coordinated effort that has seen more than $340,000 worth of food delivered to the lobby around the clock for distribution to the 2,200 employees on staff.

Face masks, gowns and face shields, many of them made on 3D printers by high school students; have been donated; illustrations and letters from young children adorn the lobby, hallways and work stations on all floors of the hospital. One of the highlights was an Instagram message from NBA legend Shaquille O'Neal, who called in to the intensive care unit to offer his thanks.
