SOMERVILLE, NJ  - The Wreaths Across America convoy that stopped off in Manville Dec. 13 for ceremonies on its way from Maine to Arlington National Cemetery delivered two memorial wreaths to Somerset County officials.

On Friday, ceremonies were held at Veterans Memorial Plaza adjacent to the Somerset County Administration Building, and in Raritan, adjacent to the John Basilone Memorial. The Somerset County Board of Chosen Freeholders were joined by local officials and veterans in placing the wreaths in both plazas.

“At this holiday season we give thanks for many blessings, and one of them is the blessing of freedom we enjoy as a result of the service of the thousands of men and women who have served our country in the military throughout our history,” said Freeholder Mark Caliguire. “The Wreaths Across America program, and our ceremony here, are a fitting way to honor and give thanks to our veterans, both living and departed.”

Also in attendance were Freeholders Patricia Walsh and Brian D. Levine, Sheriff Frank J. Provenzano, Manville Mayor Richard Onderko, Raritan Mayor Chuck McMullin, county Veterans Services Director Peter Niemiec, Veterans Services Officer Elizabeth Haluszczak, and members of the Military Order of the Purple Heart, Chapter 27.
