SOMERVILLE, NJ - Investigators from the Somerset County Prosecutor's Office and other federal, state and local agencies continued to search for the cause of the multi-alarm fire at 200 Parcview Apartments Friday morning, which caused an estimated $16M n damages to the unoccupied 88-unit building, according to Somerset County Prosecutor Michael H. Robertson.
Workmen and contractors were inside when the fire was reported at 9:34 a.m. The 88-unit, four-story building was nearing completion.
The fire was contained to the roof structure.
An investigator who specializes in electrical fires from the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms will assist later this week, according to Robertson.
A companion building next door was partially occupied; tenants were evacuated by Somerville Police. Tenants had begun moving into the undamaged building, 100 Parcview last month. Both buildings back up to the NJTRANSIT Raritan Valley line railroad tracks.
The fire was four alarms with multiple departments responding to assist Somerville Firefighters - Bernardsville, Bound Brook, Finderne, Green Knoll, Hillsborough, Liberty Corner, Raritan, Somerset, Warren, Flagtown, East Franklin, Lyons VA, Manville, Middlebush, Montgomery, Peapack-Gladstone and South Bound Brook. Multiple Emergency Medical Services also responded to the scene from Somerville, Martinsville, Green Knoll, Branchburg, Bradley Gardens and Robert Wood Johnson-Barnabas.
No injuries were reported.
