FRANKLIN, NJ - Two 19-year-olds have been arrested and face murder and weapons charges in the death of Dominic J. Frederick, 25, Winston Drive, who was found shot in his vehicle after it crashed into a residence on Foxwood Drive on May 25, 2019.
The year-long investigation led to the arrest of Trey Hyman, of King Road, Somerset, and Gavin Owens-Jones, 19 of Peoples Line Road, Somerset both of whom are charged with 1st degree Murder, 2nd degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, and 2nd degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, according to Somerset Prosecutor Michael H. Robertson.
Hyman turned himself in to the Somerset County Prosecutor's Office on Wednesday; Owens-Jones was also charged Wednesday at the Somerset County Jail where he is currently being held on unrelated charges. Owens-Jones will remain lodged pending a detention hearing, Hyman is also being held at the Somerset County Jail.
Robertson provided the following account:
The shooting occurred in the area of Petty Road, near the Franklin Greens Apartments.
Police received several phone calls at 11:05 p.m. reporting that a vehicle had crashed into a residence on Foxwood Drive. Police and detectives from the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office responded and located found Frederick unconscious behind the wheel. While trying to reach Frederick to render aid, officers noticed that Frederick had been shot. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The subsequent investigation determined that after the shooting, Frederick continued to drive his vehicle, eventually crashing into the residence. There were passengers in the car whose identities are not being released. None of them were injured..
An autopsy performed by the Northern Regional Medical Examiner’s Office ruled Frederick’s death a homicide.
